Essay

People who inject drugs (PWID) experience poor outcomes and fuel HIV epidemics in Ukraine. A share of PWID suffered from socially dangerous disease is highest in Europe (35,6 % of new HIV cases - PWID). Traditional model of drug treatment focuses on abstinence approach and pay few attention to co-morbid infectious diseases. In modern situation public health system needs to provide integrated medical-social care (IMSC) for patients with opioid addiction (OA). IMSC consists of opioid agonists maintenance therapy (OAMT) and treatment of socially dangerous infectious diseases (HIV-infection / AIDS, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis) with social support. It was working out the concept and system of IMSC for opioid addicts with co-morbid socially dangerous infection diseases and recommendations on the implementation in the broad medical practice. It was proposed an algorithm of research complex that meets international practice of evidence-based approach, for evaluation of treatment effectiveness in real world within conditions of Ukrainian healthcare system. It was grounded the priority for the national drug treatment providers and approaches to the formation of an integrated system of health and social care of patients with opioid addiction, burdened socially dangerous infectious diseases.
