Essay

A new solution for the actual problem of physiology - the definition of neocortical mechanisms of divergent (creative) thinking and prediction of creative abilities of young males and females was presented in the thesis. Based on the analysis of electrical activity indicators of the cerebral cortex of young people, it was established that neocortical mechanisms of creative thinking, both of men and women, are shaped by modulating influence of several factors: cognitive style, level of intelligence and the applied mental strategy. High result of creative thinking is most likely to suceed under the circumstances of active image handling process (activation of the parietal areas of the cerebral cortex), search of mental representations (activation of temporal cortex zones), quick decision making and low level of critical and initiating program of the left hemisphere (reduced communication between front and occipital areas of the cerebral cortex). A mathematical model of neural network that allows to effectively assess the level of creativity in terms of the electrical activity of the cerebral cortex and psychological characteristics was created. It was established that highly creative individuals are characterized by peculiar combinations of cognitive styles with the levels of non-verbal intelligence. However, the probability of achieving high results of creative thinking by men is mostly associated with high expression of analyticity, impulsivity and field independence, while by women high results of creative thinking are assosiated with high levels of non-verbal intelligence.
