The thesis is devoted to the formation and evaluation of properties of water-dispersion paints The dissertation is devoted to quality formation scientific providing of styrene-acrylic water-borne paints (WBP) filled with chalks and kaolins of Ukrainian origin. The quality formation scientific concept of WBP for different purposes is developed and implemented. The concept is based on system approach to substantiation choice of prospective mineral fillers on the basis of structure and physicochemical properties of domestic chalks and kaolins, methods of its effective combination with styrene-acrylic binder that to allow increasing protective and decorative coatings with a given level of performance properties. Comprehensive research of physical and chemical properties and structure of chalks and kaolins of main Ukrainian deposits have been conducted. Requirements to technical parameters of mineral fillers of WBP have been created. The average particles size (0,7-5 micrometers), whiteness (73-95%), oil absorption value (20-58 g/100g) and other was defined as basic technical parameters of fillers. Mentioned proposed to supplement by the surface energy parameters: lyophilic ratio (0,1-1,25) and conventional dielectric loss tangent (0,02-0,20). The carbonate filler for norplasts (CFN) produced by Sloviansk Industrial Union "Soda", milled separated chalk (grade MMC-1) produced by Novgorod-Siversk Building Plant Materials, milled separated chalk (grade MMC-2) produced by Sloviansk Chalk-Lime Plant Materials and chemically precipitated chalk have been chosen as most convenient among chalks. The kaolins of grades KC-1, KBF-90 and KHF-86 of Prosianivske deposit have been chosen as most convenient among kaolins. Ways of effectively combining of chalks and kaolins with styrene-acrylic binder by activation of fillers with using modifiers such as dispersant (sodium salt of polyacrylic acid - Axilat 32S) and repellent (potassium methyl silicon - repellent organic-silicon liquid (ROSL-11k)) are created. It is possible to adjust the energy state of the fillers surface. The optimum concentration of modifiers correlated with fillers effective specific surface. The maximum useful effect is achieved by simultaneous application of two modifiers. Patterns of improving the functional properties of coatings by forming of it dense structure have been found. This is confirmed by the mathematical model, developed with the dispersion of natural chalks and its combination with kaolins. This enables to achieve of maximum films tensile strength and wet-scrub resistance taking into account the importance of determined critical volume concentration of natural chalks (56-63%). It is shown that the nature and properties of the surface and filler volume concentration (FVC), the type and amount of modifier are the most important parameters that impact on physical-mechanical properties and wet-scrub resistance of WBP coatings. Film filled by kaolins of FVC 40-60% has in 1,3-1,6 times higher tensile strength compared with the filled by chalks, which maximum value is achieved at critical FVC. An effective way to increase hydrophobic of coating is the adding to the WBP potassium methyl silicon and silicon polymer dispersion. It is determined that the required level of coatings whiteness can be achieved by increasing the volume concentration of fillers and by adding the white pigment. Adding of titanium dioxide up to 15 wt.% to WBP allows to increase coatings whiteness in 2,4-2,9 times in a case of filling by natural chalk and in 2,0-4,0 times in a case of filling by kaolins at total pigment volume concentration of 60%. Scientific approaches to assortment of WBP formation developed according to its purpose, scope, surface material, degree of operational load and level of performance properties of coatings. The existing assortment includes basic white WBP for different purposes. Comprehensive commodity science estimation of quality of WBP based on local chalks and kaolins on indicators of performance properties of coatings has been conducted. It is shown that the coatings have high adhesion (1-2 points), sufficient whiteness by Berger (72,2-79,7 units) and practical spreading rate of surface (6,0-7,5 m2/l). By the coatings degree of gloss - are matte (6,0-8,1 units) and semigloss (21,5 units); by the wet-scrub resistance - extremely resistant (class 1 - 4,6-4,9 microns), high resistant (class 2 - 9,2-11,5 microns) and low resistant (class 4 - 62,5 microns). The calculated value of integral indicator of relative competitiveness for the created WBP ranges from 1,82 to 3,75 compared with 1,00-2,33 for the counterparts sold on the Ukrainian domestic market. Safety of created WBP confirmed in the conclusion of the state sanitary and epidemiological expertise.
