Essay

In the dissertation the causes, course and consequences of the «Great plan for the transformation of nature» were explored. The author carried out an analyze of measures, mainly in forestry and water economy of the Soviet Ukraine, that were undertaken during 1948 – 1965 in order to optimize farming, reducing the devastating effects of natural disasters, change the climatic characteristics of the different regions of the country.Author analyzed the content and dynamics of hydro-reclamation and forestry work, carried out according to the «Great plan for the transformation of nature», and the causes of failure of the original plan. The positive and negative consequences of the Soviet leadership intervention in the ecosystem were compared. The reasons for the apparent prevalence of the latter were justified. Author showed the connection between environmental problems in modern Ukraine with the measures, that were provided by the «Great plan for the transformation of nature».
