The thesis presents a fundamental analysis of pedagogical establishments' students under Conditions of higher education modernization and formation of political totalitarian system, outlines the students' function in the social, political, cultural, educational and academic life of Soviet Ukraine in 1920-1930-ies. The careful procedure of the historiography research and sources consideration establish the current state of the problem in question. The paper states that the mainstream of state policy concerning pedagogical higher educational establishments and the essentials of party and class approach towards the students contingent formation are coupled with numerous official journeys of communists and workers and the practice of layouts defining clear enlisting rules for each province. The study sheds light upon systematic campaigns of "combings-out" whose requirements were mostly determined by class principles. The findings prove that the most intensive "combings-out" took place in early 1920-ies which resulted in at least 20% reduction of pedagogical students. The research focuses on the influence of the bolshevik authorities on the number, social and national composition of students. The latter are classified according to their education, age, and sex.
