Object of research - Polish women Ukrainian provinces of the Russian Empire as a reference heterogeneous social group, heavily involved in public and private spheres. Objective: to create a coherent picture of the situation of Polish women, who lived on the territory of the Ukrainian provinces of the Russian Empire, their social functions, roles, and practices in the private and public spheres in the second half of then in nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Methods: analysis, synthesis, classification, systematization, historical-comparative, historical-typological, historical- genetic. Scientific novelty: for the first time, was a comprehensive study of the socio-cultural, economic and political aspects of the gender situation in a separate ethnic group; used gender to create a coherent picture of the situation of individual social groups living in the territory of the Ukrainian provinces of the Russian Empire in the second half of then in nineteenth and early twentieth centuries at first; features the perception of women in the public consciousness, the influence of these ideas on the formation of gender stereotypes in Polish society; public activity of women described how Polish women's movement that took its goals and tasks, social base, organizational forms, directions and stages of work; a comprehensive analysis of the private life of Polish women; researched social practices of women in the private and public spheres, their correlation, thereby creating a complete characterization of the situation of Polish women. Practical value: key findings of the study may be theoretical and factual foundation for writing scientific works, preparation of lecture courses on the history of the Polish population of Ukraine, as well as the perspective of Polish social movement, women's movement.
