In the dissertation the theoretical generalization was carried out and a new approach of solving an important and actual problem was suggested. It consists in the disclosure and integral characterization of the problem of the development of education and pedagogical thought in the Kirovohrad region (Yelysavethradshchyna) of the second part of the nineteenth and early nineties of the XX century in the historical-pedagogical reflections of domestic researchers. For the first time the author comprehensively and extensively highlighted the scientific problem, which until now was not the subject of special study – the education of the Kirovohrad region (Yelysavethrad region) of the second part of the XIX and XX centuries in historical and pedagogical reflections of Ukrainian researchers from the position of systemic, hermeneutic, cultural, historiographical, paradigm, and personalised-biographical approaches. The principles (historicism, unity of historical and logical, objectivity and comprehensiveness and integrity of the study of processes and phenomena) and methods (general scientific and historical-pedagogical) of researches are substantiated. Three main periods are distinguished in the development of scientific reflections of the history of education and pedagogical thought of the studied region,: the first one – pre-revolutionary (the second part of XIX – 1917) – works of contemporaries in the chronological boundaries of the study; the second – Soviet (1919–1991) – the works of the researchers of the Soviet period; the third – modern (from 1991 – till our time) – the works of modern researchers. It is established that each of the above-mentioned periods has its significant differences in the nature of approaches to the historical-pedagogical discourse, in the content and directions of the researches of various aspects of the development of education and pedagogical thought in the Kirovograd region (Yelysavethrad), which are caused by socio-economic, sociopolitical and socio-cultural realities of those times when these researches were carried out. The analysis of educational paradigms inherent in these periods acquires particular importance in this case. With the change of educational paradigms, transformations in the scientific searches of scientists took place. It is figured out that the research of historical and pedagogical reflections of the researchers about the development of education in the Kirovohrad region (Yelysavethrad) has a powerful basis, the analysis of which was carried out in such groups of sources: according to the methodology of studying of educational phenomena and processes of the past, we distinguished historical, historical and pedagogical works; due to the content scientific researches were determined (monographs, dissertations); generalized works; articles and conferences materials; promotional works (social commentary, popular science editions), reference books (encyclopedias, bibliographical indexes, dictionaries, etc.), the sources of personal origin (autobiographies of educators, memoirs, letters, personal archival funds, etc.); historical and modern works were differentiated according to the chronological boundaries of the study. The peculiarities of the accumulation of scientific knowledge about the development of education of the region of the second part of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries were characterized and the historical-pedagogical reflections from separate branches of professional education (pedagogical, vocational, artistic) were summarized. The scientific investigations of pedagogical personalities of Yelysavethrad region of the studied period of V. Yastrebova, M. Fedorovskoho, M. Zavadskoho, V. Khartsieva, N. Braker, P. Riabkova, A. Makarenko were generalized and their contribution to the development of Ukrainian pedagogy was determined. The dissertation reveals the stages of the study of V. Sukhomlynsky’s pedagogical heritage, their socio-historical predestination and peculiarities in the context of the development of education and pedagogical thought, the historical and pedagogical analysis of the studies devoted to the educational activity and pedagogical work of V. Sukhomlynskyi was carried out. The historical-pedagogical reflections of domestic scientists concerning the regional peculiarities of the educational development and pedagogical searches of pedagogues- innovators of the Kirovohrad region in the 50’s and 70’s of the 20 th century are highlighted: I. Tkachenko (the concept of labor education), O. Khmura (innovative technology of teaching), A. Rieznik (pedagogy of cooperation), M. Kodak (didactic and educational ideas), S. Maksiutin (the idea of comprehensive harmonious education of children in the extended-day school group).
