The problem of the modernization of preschool education in Poland in 1989–2017 is holistically and systemically substantiated and generalized in the dissertation; the theoretical, methodological and program foundations of preschool education are analyzed, taking into account the socio-political conditions of the late XX – early XXI centuries; the process of preschool education in a certain chronological framework was reconstructed as integral, continuous, variable and socially deterministic, what in general gave new pedagogical knowledge. The study was the first attempt to comprehensively analyze the tendencies, content and results of the modernization of preschool education in Poland at the turn of the XX–XXI centuries. The evolution of the regulatory framework of the content of preschool education, the rules of supervision and the basic concepts of the study are characterised. At the end of the XX – beginning of the XXI century the globalization factor had a decisive influence on preschool education, namely on the content, forms and methods of working with children in Poland. An important factor in the changes was the accession of Poland to the European Union.
