Essay

The thesis is a complex interdisciplinary study of the documentation terminology system, the problems of unification and standardization of terminology in the field of documentation and communication activity of society, which corresponds to the topical problems of modern science development. The aim is to comprehensively analyze the current state of the documentation terminology system, the multidimensional nature of its historical development directions, the scientific understanding of the unification and standardization of terminology as a means of professional communication of documentation scholars in Ukraine, the study of problems of introducing international and European to bring the national legal system closer to the legislation of the European Union, including harmonization of terminology of normative and technical documents. The analysis of the characteristic features of modern terminology and term usage, the clarification of the regularities of the unifying processes development, the tendencies of standardization of terminology and the identification of problems related to the harmonization of national standards are facilitated by the source base that functions as a multifaceted documentary array of different genre-type information – archival and published sources representing a complex of legal, normative, educational, reference, scientific content. Among the international organizations that had a significant impact on the development of domestic standardization (including terminology) is the International Organization for Standardization. The analysis of ISO / TC 37 «Language and Termology» helped to outline the main directions of its activities related to terminology, translation, interpretation and other lingual actions in a multilingual information society, including cooperation with the Technical Committee for the Standardization of Scientific and Technical Terminology of the National Authority Standardization ISO / TC 46 «Information and Documentation» is focused on standardizing the activities of information centers, libraries, archival institutions, museums and commercial entities in the process of identifying, describing, storing and analyzing information. It also pays attention to document circulation and document management. Integration of Ukraine into the common economic and informational space reveals the need of the harmonization of national standards with international and European ones. The practical significance of the topic is the application of systematic factual material, the provisions and conclusions of the dissertation in the course of writing generalized theoretical works on branch terminology, textbooks and manuals, the preparation of professional reference books, bibliographic indexes, dictionaries, and applied terminological studies. The provisions of the dissertation study become important for the creation of standards and the harmonization of national standards in the field of archival issues and management of documentation processes with international and European counterparts.
