Essay

In the dissertation based on wide range of national and foreign resources with integrated and comprehensive manner analysis of conditions for the establishment, functioning and termination of the Ukrainian-Swedish military alliance during the Northern War in 1708-1714. It was discovered that the Ukrainian-Swedish military alliance emerged ad hoc, due to an unexpected change in the operational and tactical situation at the main theater of military operational of the Great Northern War in the autumn of 1708. It was found that the Ukrainian-Swedish Union was an element of policy of "polyvassality", which was conducted by the Hetman I. Mazepa and his forebears.
