Essay

The dissertation researches and scientifically systematizes Gr. Vashchenko’s creative legacy, clarifies its specific features as well as the structure of the concept of spiritual and moral upbringing and education of Ukrainian youth in terms of contemporary methodological standpoint, personalist and biographical, phenomenological, hermeneutic, synergetic, paradigmatic, axiological, systematic and chronologic approaches. Based on the author’s criteria, the periodization of scientific and pedagogical, educational and cultural activities of the scientist has been elaborated and scientifically substantiated: period I – educational (1878–1903); period II – professional-functional (1903–1917); period ІІІ – experimental-innovative (1917–1934); period IV – scientific-empirical (1934–1943); period V – methodological and analytical (1943–1967); its technological foundation being the organizational and methodological support of the educational process due to determining the structure of the education system, elaborating a model of a creative school, clarifying the basic parameters of the content of education with the aim of acquiring integral knowledge by the personality, choice of education and upbringing methods, organizational and pedagogical, cultural and educational, material and technical means and recommendations as to their implementation in accordance with ages and stages of children and youth development;the ways of actualization of Gr. Vashchenko’s concept of spiritual and moral upbringing and education of Ukrainian youth in the contemporary Ukrainian science and educational practice have been outlined.
