Essay

The dissertation thesis provides a comprehensive historical and pedagogical analysis of the development of Ukrainians’ ethnopedagogy in Western Ukraine in the late 18th – early 20th century. Major methodological approaches (systemic, sociocultural, civilizational, ethnological, axiological), factors (socio-political, sociocultural, ethnodemographic) and ethnopedagogical concepts (Family, Language, Faith, Community) that determined the development of Ukrainians’ ethnopedagogy are substantiated. The analysis of the source base of the research is presented; the periodization is substantiated and the main stages in the development of Ukrainians’ ethnopedagogy in Western Ukraine of the studied period are defined. The axiological and general cultural characteristics of the family ethnopedagogy of Ukrainians in Western Ukraine in 1772-1939 and components of the Ukrainian educational ideal are defined. The ethnopedagogical principles of the main models of Ukrainian schooling in Western Ukraine during the Austrian and Polish occupation are characterized, in particular point-fragmentary, linear-fragmentary, step-fragmentary. Ethnopedagogical characteristics of the education content in the folk-pedagogical ideas of Western Ukrainians are determined. The ethnopedagogical character of activity of public organizations and social and religious movements in Western Ukraine at the end of the 18th – in the first decades of the 20th century. The main tendencies of ethnopedagogical development of Ukrainians in Western Ukraine are determined. The prospects of using the historical ethnopedagogical experience of training and education in the modern education system are substantiated.
