Essay

The object of the paper is the everyday life of workers of Ukrainian industry; the aim of it is a complex studying of the life of Ukrainian metallurgical industry in the late XIX - early XX century; methods are general scientific (method of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction), special-historical (historical-genetic, historical-comparative, problem-chronological, etc.), anthropological, micro-historical, method of system approaches; scientific novelty of the research is caused by the statement of the problem, in which questions of everyday life of metallurgical industry workers of Ukraine in the last XIX - early XX centuries became the subject of special research in Ukrainian historiography for the first time. Theoretical and methodological basis for studying of everyday life of metallurgical industry workers of Ukraine in the late XIX - early XX centuries was defined for the first time. Materials from the funds of the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv, State Archives of the Dnepropetrovsk Region, Glamorgan Archive in Cardiff (Great Britain), Russian State Historical Archives, funds of historical museum of Ilych Iron and Steel works of Mariupol and the museum of history in Kamenske have been updated, that allowed us to identify new factual material on the subject of studying the everyday life of the metallurgical industry workers of Ukraine in the late XIX - early XX centuries; a complex study of the everyday life of workers in the metallurgical industry of Ukraine in the late XIX - early XX centuries as a component of the history of everyday life in Ukraine and the impact of government policy on the everyday life of metallurgists were analyzed; the level of material consumption of workers in the metallurgical industry was elucidated. Living conditions and quality of food for employees of metallurgical plants; analysis of sources of budgeting for employees; level of medical services and availability of educational services were specified. Characteristics of the metallurgical industry, working conditions at steel enterprises, research of protests among metallurgists gained further development. The practical importance of the research is determined by the possibility of using its materials and conclusions when writing monographs and generalizing works on close topics, teaching a course on the history of Ukraine, preparing special courses, thorough study of the history of everyday life of the population of Ukraine, and creating educational and methodological aids. Certain provisions of the paper may be included in the system of professional development for history teachers in order to draw attention to the role of the ordinary person in history. The research materials can also be taken into account in the formation of state social policy in the country's industrial regions.
