The dissertation is devoted to the theoretical analysis and systematization of approaches to understanding and definition of the phenomenon of change resistance, its features, manifestations and predictors. The dissertation contains the solution to a relevant scientific problem of the individual psychological characteristics of change resistance on theoretical, empirical and experimental levels.
The scientific novelty of the dissertation research:
For the first time, the results of a comprehensive analysis have established the relationship between the components of resistance to change and psychological characteristics of a person, namely: psychological defense mechanisms (displacement, repression, rationalization), rigidity (rigidity symptom complex, actual rigidity, sensitive rigidity, premorbid rigidity), anxiety (state, trait), psychodynamic personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion), coping strategy "social support seeking"; the developed model (formula) to predict resistance to change in a person, having its basis on psychological characteristics of a person and able to describe 70,6% of resistance to change levels distribution; for the first time it has been established which psychological characteristics have the strongest influence on person’s resistance to change levels, they include: "actual rigidity", "rigidity symptom complex", "sensitive rigidity", "extraversion", "premorbid rigidity", "displacement" and "repression"; theoretical, methodical and practical bases of the research of resistance to change through the psychological approach have been substantiated; the dissertation has clarified, deepened and expanded the understanding of the concept of "resistance to change"; provisions and classifications of the causes, manifestation types, nature and structural components of change resistance have been further developed; the Comprehensive system for overcoming resistance to change in a person (screening tools to measure resistance to change, training to modify resistance to change and assessment of the effectiveness of overcoming change resistance) has been substantiated, developed and tested, accounting for certain psychological characteristics, whose the impact was established in the context of change resistance.
The theoretical value of the work lies in the development of ideas about the psychological characteristics of resistance to change, the formulation of the principles of work of a psychologist to overcome or minimize resistance to change in accordance with the psychological characteristics of an individual.
The practical significance of the obtained results is the design of the Comprehensive system for overcoming resistance to change in a person. The proposed tools for diagnosis and assessment of resistance to change, namely: "The Change resistance screening scale" allows to identify the formation or presence of resistance to change as a screening tool; the developed and tested "Training to overcome resistance to change" provides a tool to reduce and / or overcome resistance to change. The research results can also be used in the study plans of such disciplines as "Psychology of management", "Psychodiagnostics", "Psychology of organizations", "Psychological diagnostics and assessment of human resources" and in the training of specialists on organizational psychology.
