The present dissertation thesis concentrates upon the problem of development of professional potential of future foreign language teachers in the process of their professional training. Semantic-etymological analysis of professional potential of future foreign language teachers as philosophical, psychological and pedagogical category has been carried out. It is generalized that in the field of philosophy the potential is determined as a certain internal mechanism (source, opportunity, ability, resource, means, etc.) implementation of which ensures goal achievement, the solution of a certain task. The study of reference and encyclopedic literature has indicated that the outlined categories - source, opportunity, ability, resource, means - do not cover the essence of the concept "potential". At the same time, the concept "potential" has acquired a categorical meaning in various sciences - sociology, management theory, psychology, pedagogy and others. In pedagogy, the category of "potential" has been interpreted as a constructive component of the definition"pedagogical potential". As far as theory of management is concerned, the potential of any employee is considered to be a combination of physical and spiritual qualities of a person that determines possibilities and the intensity and limits of employment, ability to achieve certain results in given conditions, as well as willingness for self-improvement in the process of work.
