Essay

The thesis is devoted to the problem of participation of Ukrainians in the Resistance Movement of France and Italy during the Second World War. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the complex study and depiction of participation of Ukrainians in the struggle with Nazi-fascist occupants on the territory of France and Italy. It has been conducted for the first time being based on archival sources, published documents, material, reminiscences and correspondence of periodicals, analysis and generalization of the scientific literature by domestic and foreign authors. The contemporary methodological basis has been used to process a wide range of data as well as to interpret and evaluate the problems raised in the works of the Soviet historians. A comparative study of the Resistance Movement in France and Italy has been done. Unknown pages about the activity of the native Ukrainians in the ranks of patriots have been reproduced and the information about their number has been specified. The insufficiently studied issues dealing with the interaction of Ukrainians with the native population of these countries, their coactivity with the emigrants in their fight with the occupants have been under thorough consideration. Forms, methods and scope of participation of Ukrainians at different stages of deployment of the movement to liberate France and Italy from Nazi-fascist invaders have been investigated. The practical value of the research is in the prospective involvement of the received scientific results and their validation, a considerable bulk of data, conclusions made about the place and role of Ukrainians in the anti-Nazi struggle of France and Italy into conducting further scientific research in history of Ukraine, France and Italy, and writing generalizing papers, as well as teaching such disciplines as History of Ukraine and Europe and preparing teaching manuals and methodological materials for History lessons and algorithms of international and interstate relations. The paper can be used for commemorating the common effort in getting victory over the Hitler’s Germany and preserving peace.
