The dissertation presents a comprehensive study of re-narrative constructions as an essential component of the Ukrainian syntactic system with the focus on their functional potential in the texts of artistic, scientific, journalistic, religious and epistolary styles.
The introduction substantiates the relevance of the thesis. It also formulates the goal and objectives of the thesis, defines the subject, object, methods and techniques of research, describes the source basis of the thesis, specifies the scientific novelty, practical and theoretical significance of the thesis, and presents the personal contribution of the candidate for a degree. It also provides information about the number of publications, approbation of research results, and structure and volume of the work.
The first section, Theoretical Foundations of Research of Re-narrative Constructions in Linguistics, the place of re-narrative sentences in the practice of linguistic research is highlighted; the term base of several concepts has been determined, in particular, a re-narrative sentence as a modal-intentional utterance used to re-narrate certain information, to reproduce, directly or indirectly, one’s own words or others’, to retell indirectly conjectural knowledge; auto-reported narration (self-reported narration) as a term denoting an accurate or transformed reproduction of one’s own speech; delegated re-narration as a model of the speaker’s request to retell a particular piece of information addressed to a particular subject of communication; dialogical re-narration as a communication register aimed at the re-narrator’s reproduction of a past conversation in which he / she was either a direct participant or an observer; ring re-narration which provides that the addressee retransmits their thoughts to the source of information through the same information channel he / she received the data from the re-narrator; re-narration is considered as a compositional and verbal component of the narrative text; the basic scheme by which the interaction of the re-narrator and the addressee takes place is represented; it is established that the sources of information for the re-narrator are: 1) a human as a social being in terms of education / profession / title / position; civil, ethnic, territorial affiliation; religion; sex; family ties; lifestyle / social status, etc; 2) an unidentified subject, the uncertainty of which is determined by some of the reasons why the re-narrator is reluctant to indicate the source of information; 3) institution / organization; the methodological paradigm of the research is characterized.
The second section, Structural and Semantic Features of Re-narrative Sentences, is devoted to the analysis of a complex explanatory sentence as the main means of verbalizing the intentions of the re-narration; the study of particles that mark the reproduction of another’s word and implement specific functional and content semantics; the description of subjective-modal forms that verbalize re-narration (their division into personality-oriented, status-oriented and institutionally oriented is presented); the consideration of another’s speech in the context of markers of re-narration modality; the identification of atypical means of expressing the semantics of re-narration.
The third section, Communicative-intentional Parameters of Re-narrative Sentences, deals with re-narrated dialogue and re-narrated monologue; rumor as a statement of a re-narrative nature based on an informative message, which serves as an effective manipulative tool within the retransmission of information; intonation features of translational constructions, their functional range.
The fourth section, Re-narrative Constructions in Discourse-Genre Manifestations and Stylistic Forms of the Ukrainian Language, presents the comprehensive analysis of re-narration in artistic, scientific, journalistic, religious and epistolary texts. It is found that re-narrative constructions in artistic discourse help to balance the exchange, to introduce some important information, to show the characters’ specifics. In scientific discourse, they help to compare different opinions and, if necessary, generate discussion. In journalistic discourse, they implement a voluntative function; in sermons discourse, they add give argumentativeness, persuasiveness and declarativeness to the priest’s words); in epistolary discourse, they verbalize agreement / disagreement with the addressee, request for help, promise to retell some information, request to convey gratitude, congratulations, sympathy, complaint, etc.
The conclusion summarizes the main research results of the functional parameters of re-narrative constructions in discourse-genre manifestation of the Ukrainian language.
