The relevance of the research topic is due to the fact that in Ukrainian Orthodoxy for centuries the controversy over the language of worship has continued with varying intensity and direction. This multifaceted and multi-vector discussion goes far beyond the confessional space, as it concerns the understanding of language in the life of the people and determines the directions of cultural development and political affirmation in political global discourse, which is especially clear in today's socio-cultural situation.
Philosophical and religious analysis of the relationship between the language of religion and the national language in the history of Ukrainian Orthodoxy reveals both the deep features of the mentality of the Ukrainian ethnic group and the specifics of the worldview of modern Orthodox Ukrainians. The geopolitical situation, the specifics of religious processes in the multi-confessional state and world Orthodoxy, the "self-determination" of the Orthodox in connection with the creation of the PCU especially highlighted the problem of the liturgical language of Ukrainian Orthodoxy. This gives the study a clear social relevance, as the issue of the liturgical language of Orthodoxy is part of the so-called "language issue", which is currently one of the most politicized in Ukrainian society.
In theoretical terms, the main conflict of the dissertation research is the use of national languages as sacred in Orthodox countries, historically part of the Church Slavonic language, and analysis of ways to solve this problem by Orthodox churches in these countries, which forms the subject field of interdisciplinary research interest in religion philosophy of language, as well as their subdisciplines that are developing in modern humanities: linguistic and religious studies, linguistic and cultural studies, ethnolinguistics, psycholinguistics, etc. The problem of liturgical language is also solved in Christian theology, in particular in biblical studies and hermeneutics.
Despite the significant theoretical achievements of related humanities (source studies, ethnopsychology and linguoculturology) and the theoretical and methodological basis of linguistic religious studies developed in recent years, there are almost no systematic studies of the liturgical language in the domestic religious discourse. Therefore, the theoretical and practical aspects of the formation and functioning of the liturgical language of Ukrainian Orthodoxy require a comprehensive religious analysis. Despite the existence of separate historical and religious studies of the liturgical language of Orthodoxy in Ukraine, the analysis of their philosophical and religious aspects in the proposed perspective has not yet been conducted. The presence of a significant array of confessional Christian sources, as well as scientific research on related topics testifies to the possibility and relevance of conducting a philosophical and religious study of the liturgical language of Ukrainian Orthodoxy. The purpose of the dissertation is a comprehensive philosophical and religious study of the formation, transformation and change and modern functioning of the liturgical language of Ukrainian Orthodoxy. The scientific novelty of the study is a comprehensive philosophical and religious analysis of the formation, transformation, change and functioning of the liturgical language of Orthodoxy in Ukraine as a unique phenomenon of national spiritual culture, which contributes to the status of national language, preservation and development of spiritual culture around Orthodox moral values.
