Essay

The relevance of the dissertation research is defined by the urgency of the Ukrainian meteorological discourse comprehensive analysis, which would provide semantic and functional parameterization of weather forecasts and their pragmalinguistic characteristics. In view of this, a communicative strategies and tactics typology is developed, language markers of their implementation are determined, the universal and original components within the meteorological discourse structural and semantic organization, as well as the weather forecasters’ and journalists’ communicative intentions are defined.Meteorological discourse is interpreted as an information space in which mainly monothematic small-format texts of prognostic character concerning future weather conditions function are properly organized, are characterized by certain semantic-structural parameters, and reflect the addressee’s intentional program.Field modeling having been used during the research enabled forming the lexical-semantic “Synoptic meteorology” field as the semantic core of the Ukrainian meteorological discourse. The center of meteorological discourse is established by the lexemes of micro fields “Time” and “Onyms”, and the peripheral components include names of clothes and shoes. It is established that the strategic network of the elaborated discourse is represented by informing, regulatory and self-presenting strategies. The communicative intention of the informing strategy is to highlight the state and prospects of weather conditions. It is realized through the tactics of informing, argumentation and explanation, which function in interaction, realizing the global communicative intention of meteorological discourse. The forecaster’s / journalist’s desire to adjust human behavior according to weather conditions is the core of the regulatory communication strategy. The aforementioned strategy is implemented via advice tactics, drawing attention to environmental issues and protection from the negative weather effects, which are aimed at preserving the Earth's ecosystem and human health.Self-presentation strategy expresses the weather forecaster's personality idiosyncratic parameters. Its tactics (social etiquette, intellectualization, popularization of Ukrainian spiritual culture, patriotism and humor) explicate the addressee’s disposition in terms of their value system, beliefs and compliance with social norms. The prospects of the research lie within improving the theoretical foundations of meteorological discourse analysis, expanding and diversifying the source and factual bases, establishing the specificity of linguistic individualization of the weatherman as a professional language personality, which would allow to carry out its multifaceted parameterization within the prognostic discourse.
