Essay

The dissertation is a comprehensive study of semantic innovations or in a broad interpretation neosemanticisms vocabulary in the modern Ukrainian language, aimed at identifying the role of internal resources of the Ukrainian language in updating its lexicon, to clarify the ability of language to change, adapt to time, while maintaining its national face. The scientific novelty of the research results is that for the first time in Ukrainian linguistics it is systematized and comprehensively described the types of neosemanticisms, that are recorded in the texts of different styles of the Ukrainian language of the early XXI century, taking into account their origin, structural, semantic and pragmatic characteristics; an attempt is made to model the development of neosemanticisms in the linguistic activity of modern Ukrainian society, their functioning in texts and in the language system. The following methods were used in the work for the holistic study of various aspects of the process of neosemanticization of vocabulary and solving the tasks: general scientific (induction and deduction, analysis and synthesis, descriptive method, sampling method, comparison, elements of quantitative analysis); proper linguistic methods: a structural method implemented in the method of direct components and the method of component analysis to clarify the semantic structure of lexical tokens and determine the innovative seme; a method of contextual analysis of word semantics, which made it possible to identify the peculiarities of the functioning of neosemanticisms in texts and the context influence on the semantic resources of the lexical token. It was used the procedure for determining the functional potential of innovations, proposed by E. A. Karpilovskaya and implemented in the ideographic dictionary of new vocabulary "Active resources of modern Ukrainian nomination" (ARSUN) team of authors of the Department of Lexicology, Lexicography and Structural and Mathematical Linguistics of the Institute of Ukrainian Language NAS of Ukraine. The main approaches to the study of language dynamics in Ukrainian and foreign linguistics are analyzed. It was found that in the word as the basic unit of the Ukrainian nomination novelty can be expressed in its form, meaning and use. The origins of semantic derivatology and the formation of the theory of meaning are studied. It is established that the most flexible element of a language unit is its meaning, because it is determined by the material content, value, emotional indicators, and the specifics of the day and the existence of language in these days. Different approaches to the interpretation of semantic innovations in the lexicological tradition of Ukrainian and East Slavic languages in general are outlined. There are 3 types of neosemanticisms depending on the method of their creation. The practical value of the dissertation consists in mainly in the possibility of applying the results to further study the language dynamics, in particular resources and methods of secondary nomination. The lexical material of the dissertation can be used for compiling new explanatory and aspect dictionaries of different types, new grammars of the Ukrainian language and other works aimed at readers who work with the word. The results of the research can also be used to write textbooks and manuals on lexicology, stylistics and culture of the Ukrainian language for educational institutions of different levels and types, in the process of giving practical classes in lexicology, linguistic text analysis, linguocultural studies and media linguistics. The provisions and conclusions of the dissertation can serve as a conceptual and methodological basis for further study of the role of internal resources of the Ukrainian language of the late XX – early XXI century in preserving the identity of its nomination.
