Essay

The dissertation is devoted to consideration of metacognitive activity as a form of manifestation of the metacognitive potential of an individual, which is understood as a voluntary purposeful mental activity, the essence of which is to manage the processes of perception, storage, processing and reproduction of information. Metacognitive activity is a property of the individual, the structural components of which belong to different classes of mental phenomena: motivationalemotional, reflectiveevaluative, volitional, operational and informational. The motivationalemotional component combines a set of motives, needs, and interests of an individual that can initiate his metacognitive activity, influence its duration and sustainability. Reflectiveevaluative has as its content the processes of observation by an individual of his own cognitive activity and providing evaluations of its progress, which can be both rational and based on emotional attitudes. The volitional component of metacognitive activity is a set of processes that ensure an individual's conscious management of perception, storage, processing, and reproduction of information. Operational – manifests itself in specific actions, with the help of which regulatory functions are carried out (time allocation, finding errors, choosing strategies, replacing the strategy when it turns out to be unproductive, etc.). The informational component contains a person's knowledge about the peculiarities of his own cognitive processes, cognitive strategies, as well as information about the task, the conditions in which the activity is carried out, and the available opportunities. According to the results of empirical research, correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between metacognitive activity and certain psychological characteristics of the individual, such as: adequate selfesteem, emotional stability, high normative behavior, radicalism, social courage, dominance, softness, selfconfidence, relaxation. As a result of multiple regression analysis, it was established that predictors of metacognitive activity can be: indirectness, activity, systemic reflection, field dependence, external regulation, selfmotivation, radicalism, and high normative behavior. Predictors of a decrease in metacognitive activity are introspection and quasireflection.
