The di ssertation is devoted t o a comprehensive st udy of regional f actors o f democratic transit in tropical Africa, which determine the specifics of transformation processes and influence their results.
The c ontent of the b asic r esearch c oncept of " regional f actors of democratic transition" de fined b y the a uthor a s the i ntegration o f i nternal soc ial c onditions of development and structural components of the political systems, which comprehensively de termine t he s pecifics a nd r esults of tr ansformation processes, have a transnational (regional) d imension a nd de termine th e qua lity of postauthoritarian political regimes, was actualized and conceptualized.
The r egional f actors th at r eflect t he s pecifics of the domestic so ciopolitical situation, typical of tr opical A frica, a nd i nfluence t he course and r esults o f democratic transit are identified: ethnic, which h as a cquired the status of p olitical i deology, influences t he electoral l egislation, party a ctivities, political mobilization, e lectoral ambitions, and therefore the solution of ethnic problems is important for political, security, economic and cultural progress; economic, w hich ha s not y et b ecome the f oundation f or political modernization, a s t he u npredictable nature of transit r equires sy nchronization of political a nd e conomic c ontent of tr ansformations into a h olistic model of gradual reforms that must be implemented in accordance with the regional environment; security, which testifies to the high level of conflict in the region on the basis of e conomic, te rritorial, e thnicreligious, r eligious, linguistic c ontradictions, which preserves the potential for military intervention in the political process and influences the choice of strategies for democratic development.
Challenges to the promotion of democratic transformations in the countries of the r egion have b een s tudied, w hich i nclude: t he l ack of strong o pposition parties capable of po litical confrontation; economic weakness, w hich pr ovokes the abandonment of democratic processes; political significance of ethnic and religious differentiation; use of th e security institution for p olitical pr essure; un structured democratic institutions; use of sta te resources a nd the c onstitution to le gitimize power; infantilism of civil society.
The following phenomena were h ighlighted: t he p olitical d evelopment of tropical Africa in the 2000s is characterized by a multivector orientation of transits and politicaltransformation models; the range of opportunities for democratization of countries due to powerful raw materials and human resources, globalization processes and in ternational influences i s gr adually e xpanding, w hile the s ociopolitical mechanisms of their implementation remain limited; In general, there is a democratic tendency in t he region, and given the fact that democratic transit is incomplete, it is incorrect to talk about its irreversible nature or the collapse of democracy.
