In the dissertation, in order to study the specifics of the embodiment of comic images in the ballet music of Yuri Shevchenko, the historiography and source base are identified, generalized and studied. For the purpose of high-quality coverage of comic images in Yuri Shevchenko's ballet music, general scientific, special-scientific and concrete-problem research methods are defined.
The composer's ballets are characterized and the system of leitmotifs in the performances “Pinocchio and the Magic Violin” (since September 2022, the ballet has been renamed "The Adventures of Pinocchio", but the scientific work has been carried out according to the preliminary title with links to video materials under this title) and “Following Two Hares”. The system of leitmotifs in these ballets contributed to the formation of comic images in the composer's music.
The specificity of ballet music is determined and its significance as an organic component of the performance is revealed, in which the musical complex of means of expression, the leitmotif system for revealing the content of the ballet performance is concentrated. The interaction in the work of the composer, choreographer and performers is established, based on the scenario, embodying the life of the characters in a complex way, through the means of musical and choreographic expressiveness: the activity of the musical stage action, laconic and vivid musical themes individualize musical images, including comic ones.
The concept of “comic image” in ballet is revealed. On the example of these ballets, comic images are analyzed and the specifics of the embodiment of comedy in ballet music through the means of musical expression with a system of leitmotifs, leittimbres are revealed; methods of depicting dance and non-dance movements (leutruchs) Characteristic features of comic images in ballet music are revealed: musical and choreographic contrast; complementarity of musical thematics with musical instruments (timbre); activity in the development of musical stage action and choreographic diversity.
Comic images are found in Y. Shevchenko's ballet music “Pinocchio and the Magic Violin”. The interdependence of music and choreography in the formation of comic images (Karabas-Barabas, Basilio the cat, Alice the fox) has been proved. The leitsystem consists of leittems, leittimbres and leitruchs. Among the leittems with characteristic leittimbres, the following elements are reproduced: puppetry; comedy. The leittimbres of musical instruments complement the disclosure of comic images (Karabas-Barabas, Alice the fox, Basilio the cat).
The analysis of comic images in Y. Shevchenko's ballet music “Following Two Hares” is carried out. The system of leitmotifs of the comic characters of the ballet is singled out. The musical theme of the Ukrainian city of scenes of folk festivals complements the disclosure of the comic images of the ballet using popular folk instruments. Leitrukhs and comic gestures add comedy to the disclosure of images and situations.
The common features of the images of Y. Shevchenko's ballet “Following Two Hares” and the film of the same name, divided into visual (make-up, hairstyle, clothing), choreographic (movements, gestures, facial expressions) and musical (leitmotifs, leittimbres, instrumentation) are established.
The method of analysis of ballet music has been refined with an emphasis on the disclosure of comic images, including the characteristic means of musical and choreographic expressiveness. The use of Ukrainian musical folklore, jazz-pop intonations and rhythms in the author's music is noted.
