Pohorilenko A. Humanistic ideas in legislation as a determinant of citizens' legal consciousness formation

Humanism as a socio-political ideology has a long history, dating back to antiquity. For thousands of years, mankind has tried to construct a stable and strong society. However, such forms of government and political regimes as tyranny, dictatorship, absolute monarchy, communism did not justify themselves. Gradually, people came to understand that only a society in which every person is an unconditional and absolute value, the highest social good, can claim a happy and bright future. This is how the humanist ideology was formed, at the center of which lies the idea of the unconditional value and dignity of every human person, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnic or social origin, property status, religion, political views or other characteristics. In the middle of the 20th century, humanity, observing all the horrors of war, realized that humanistic ideology cannot remain only on the pages of philosophical treatises, but must find a proper reflection in the system of international law. This resulted in the adoption of such important regulatory and legal acts as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, the Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and political rights, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and the formation of such important institutions for the protection of human rights as the European Court of Human Rights, the International Criminal Court (The Hague), the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, etc.
