In the dissertation, a theoretical analysis and empirical study of the problem of Self-regulation as a personality resilience factor of the «Rapid Response Department» police officers was carried out. The specifics of the service activity of special units of the National Police "KORD" consists in performing tasks in extreme conditions and requires from KORD soldiers the ability to survive in high-risk situations, to act effectively in conditions of uncertainty, the ability to predict likely options for the development of events and make the right decisions in critical circumstances and under lack of time. Under such conditions, all regulatory components of personality resilience acquire the value of basic characteristics.
In the dissertation, for the first time, the self-regulation of KORD soldiers is theoretically grounded and empirically investigated in the system of personality resilience, which is presented as an integrative characteristic, that manifests itself in the mental, physical, emotional and behavioural ability of police officers to carry out service in extreme conditions, to recover from adversity, as well as to learn and grow after failure; the regulatory contribution to the functioning of the resilience of such psychological phenomena as tolerance to uncertainty, reflexivity, self-management, types of orientation in difficult situations and productive orientation in responding to an error, in which various aspects of self-regulation are responded to, is determined.
For the first time, the paper establishes the factor structure of self-regulatory factors of resilience and empirically shows that its greater density corresponds to a higher level of resilience; it is empirically proven that a high level of resilience is translated into a factor structure, the components of which are regulatory initialization, regulatory support and regulatory implementation of resilience.
In the dissertation, conceptual ideas regarding the content and specifics of the phenomenon of self-regulation in modern legal psychology and approaches to the organization of psychological work aimed at increasing the resilience of police officers by developing its regulatory components were further developed. The work improves the theoretical-psychological and methodological approaches to the possibilities of diagnosing self-regulation and resilience of police officers.
In the first chapter of the dissertation, the semantic field of the concept of resilience is revealed in the perspective of such categories as hardiness, adaptability, stress resistance, mental health, coping strategies, professional stress etc. Self-regulation is presented as a driving force, as an essential condition for the functioning of resilience, which acts as a mental regulator of behaviour and activity of a personality. The service activity of the KORD special unit is presented as a complex type of professional activity that places increased demands on the individual and psychological characteristics of employees, in particular in war conditions, when the military personnel of the unit operate at all points of contact with the aggressor.
In the second chapter of the work, the peculiarities of the components of self-regulation of the policemen of the "Rapid Response Department" with different levels of resilience are investigated.
The empirical basis of the study was made up of 1,119 police officers of assault units of the "Rapid Response Department" from nine regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv. With the application of cluster analysis, the general sample was divided into three groups with different levels of resilience based on diagnostic data using the "Personality's Resilience" method. The group with a low level of resilience contained 307 people, with an average level of resilience - 498 people, with a high level of resilience - 314 people.
Empirical study of uncertainty tolerance of police officers as a resource of their resilience showed that the function of uncertainty tolerance manifests itself in the processes of self-regulation inherent in personality in situations of "blurry" of choice coordinates and lack of opportunity to apply ready-made decision algorithms. It was established that a high level of resilience of law enforcement officers is characterized by a greater tolerance for uncertainty and a more pronounced rationality in decision-making under conditions of uncertainty. At the same time, increasing rationality is accompanied by the strengthening of such components of resilience as self-motivation for achievement, emotional control and self-regulation, self-organization and planning for the future, and the increase in readiness for risk - such components of resilience as social competence and social support and adaptive styles of behaviour.
