The object of the study is the process of effective functioning of machine-building enterprises in a competitive environment. The subject of the study is the theoretical-methodical and scientific-applied principles of the effective functioning of machine-building enterprises in a competitive environment with the aim of improving their management on the basis of the harmonization of the mechanism of effective management of the competitiveness of these enterprises. Key theoretical and practical developments are based on the provisions of economic theory, theory and practice of management, marketing and the use of such methods as the method of generalization - to determine the essence, role and basic axioms regarding the effective functioning of enterprises; methods of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, system and situational approaches - for the purpose of researching processes in the functioning of machine-building enterprises; economic-mathematical, selective observations, comparative analysis - for analyzing the activities of machine-building enterprises and forecasting, etc. In order to achieve the above research goal, the dissertation solved and highlighted a number of scientific tasks related to the justification of the scientific and methodological approach to the implementation of the principles of harmonization of the mechanism of effective management of the functioning of machine-building enterprises, with the proposal of a suitable indicator for harmonization. It is emphasized that management is an integral part of functioning. The economic essence of the concepts of "competitiveness" and "mechanism of managing the competitiveness of machine-building enterprises" is clarified, the interpretation of the category "effective functioning" of machine-building enterprises is proposed. The levers and mechanisms of the effective functioning of machine-building enterprises in a competitive environment are considered for the purpose of effective management. The author's vision of the place of the competitiveness management system of machine-building enterprises in strategic management was formed. The study of approaches to determining the effectiveness of processes in the functioning of machine-building enterprises made it possible to substantiate the updated methodical approaches to the evaluation of efficiency as a qualitative component of the effectiveness of processes. It is emphasized that the effective functioning of the machine-building enterprise is the basis of its competitiveness, its ability to act with a certain level of effectiveness of processes. Without ignoring the arsenal of modern evaluation methods, with the help of which the problems and possibilities of managing the competitiveness of machine-building enterprises are investigated, it is proposed to supplement these methods with SEE-analysis. The state and development trends of machine-building enterprises in the context of products entering the international market have been studied. The necessity of distinguishing the concept of harmonization with the appropriate index is substantiated. The scientific and methodical approach to the calculation of the integral indicator of the process - the index of effectiveness of the participant in the process is outlined. The main components of the management system for the operation of machine-building enterprises in a competitive environment are highlighted. The content and levels of competitive potential are outlined, attention is focused on competitive development potential. In the context of the study of competitive development potential, it is proposed to separate a group of leading enterprises/an individual leading enterprise from groups of enterprises in accordance with certain strategic priorities. Within the framework of the general economic strategy of balanced regional development of the Vinnytsia region, the organizational and management problems of the studied enterprises and ways of solving them were clarified.
