The thesis provides a theoretical analysis and proposes a new solution to the scientific task, which consists in theoretical substantiation of pedagogical conditions, development of methods for implementing the structural and functional model in teaching mathematics in accordance with pedagogical conditions and experimental verification of the effectiveness of the implemented structural and functional model of formation of STEM competencies of students of institutions of professional higher education in teaching mathematics.
The object of the study: professional training of students of institutions of professional higher education. The purpose of the study is to theoretically substantiate, develop and experimentally test the effectiveness of the structural and functional model of STEM competencies formation of students of professional higher education institutions in teaching mathematics.
To achieve the goal, solve the defined tasks, and test the hypothesis, a set of the following research methods was used: theoretical - analysis, synthesis, generalization, classification, systematization of theoretical and research data, modeling to determine the essence of key concepts of the study, substantiation of pedagogical conditions, design of a structural and functional model of formation of STEM competencies of students of institutions of professional higher education in teaching mathematics; empirical - interviews, testing and questioning of students, setting questions.
Scientific novelty of the study:
- for the first time the structure, components, criteria, indicators and levels of formation of STEM-competencies of students of institutions of professional higher education in mathematics; pedagogical conditions for their formation; developed a structural and functional model of formation of STEM-competencies, the content core of which is the defined pedagogical conditions and which structures the formative influences into target, content, activity and diagnostic blocks;
- the content of the concept of "STEM-competencies of students of institutions of professional higher education" was clarified; the technology of forming STEM-competencies of students of institutions of professional higher education in teaching mathematics was developed;
- the methodology of competency-based mathematics teaching; STEM-oriented methods and forms of organizing mathematics teaching for the formation of STEM competencies of students have been further developed.
The practical significance of the results obtained is the development and testing of a structural and functional model for the formation of STEM competencies of students of institutions of professional higher education in mathematics; development of methodological recommendations for teachers on the implementation of integrated STEM projects in mathematics teaching; development of a textbook that provides methodological recommendations for the use of STEM approaches in mathematics teaching, the introduction of project-based learning technologies, the implementation of interdisciplinary links, computer-oriented teaching, and computer-assisted learning.
The results of the research can be used to further improve the theory and practice of STEM-teaching of mathematical disciplines, in particular in the development of manuals, programs of special courses for students of vocational education institutions.
