The dissertation is a comprehensive study of theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of socio-psychological determinants of choosing economist’s profession by young people. The research is based on the assumption that the sphere of economics public and private sectors will have a priority and dynamic development in the current economic conditions in the near future. The profession of an economist is socially significant for young people. It requires high level of economic education, the development of communicative and ethical culture, professionally important qualities and the acquisition of general and professional competences, thorough preparation for the implementation of planning and economic, organizational, managerial, analytical and research tasks. Theoretical generalization of scientific approaches regarding the choice of profession of an economist by young people, correlation and factor analysis of the results of empirical research and questionnaires on the socio-psychological determinants of choosing the profession of an economist by young people made it possible to base the research on the author's conceptual research model. The empirical research was carried out during 2019-2022 at the State University of Trade and Economics. The survey covered 210 people, 174 of them were students of educational programs for training economic specialists (82 first-year students, 52 bachelors, 40 masters) and 36 experts – scientific and pedagogical workers and economists with more than 5 years of experience. According to the results of the empirical research, a regularity has been established, which consists in the fact that professionally important qualities in professionalization grow significantly in the process of acquiring professional competences, namely: in relation to the processing and analysis of statistical information, analysis of social and reference information, mastering methodological tools, information technologies in field of economic activity. The respondents, who are not competent, already gain experience at the level of masters and especially expert professionals, consider adaptability, the ability to adapt quickly to constantly changing conditions, competence in communication, interaction with colleagues in the profession and other people in this field to be essential in choosing the profession of economist. 5 factors have been singled out based on results of the empirical research, which we consider as socio-psychological determinants that define choosing the profession of an economist. The most significant factor loadings and the highest correlations for F1 (motivational factor) are observed for the variables of the "Motives for choosing a profession" method. According to F2, the professional and intellectual factor following J.Holland's "Questionnaire of correspondence of the personality type to the professional environment". According to F3, adaptive and communicative - concerning the indicators of the methods "Adaptive mobility" and "Assessment of communicative control. According to F4, individual and psychological - concerning the indicators of the intellectual, communicative and emotionally volitional spheres of the personality. According to the 16-factor questionnaire of R. Cattell. According to F5 - temperamental - concerning the method "Research of the properties of temperament". Such results give reasons to recommend the given set of methods to research the socio-psychological determinants of young people's choice of the economist’s profession. The work presents a comprehensive program of diagnosis and development of socio-psychological determinants of choosing the profession of an economist by young people. The purpose of the program is the development of informative set of psychodiagnostic toolkit and the identification of adequate psychological technologies aimed at the development of socio-psychological determinants of young people's choice of the profession of an economist. The program is intended for career guidance work for practical psychologists, social workers, PR managers and teachers. The dissertation work has been completed at the State University of Trade and Economics within the scope of scientific-research topic "Psychological support for the professional development of trade and service sector specialists" (implementation period: 1st quarter of 2016 - 4th quarter of 2020, state registration number 0118U000053) and " Occupational health and stress of employees of organizations" (implementation period 1st quarter 2021 - 4th quarter 2025, state registration number 0122U001379).
