The object of the study is the development of the theoretical and methodological ideas of Ukrainian artists-pedagogues in art education institutions of the first half of the twentieth century. The study aims to identify theoretical ideas, generalise the scientific and practical experience of art education in the pedagogical heritage of Ukrainian artists-teachers and reveal the possibilities of their use in the modern educational space. Methodological basis of the study. To reveal this research problem, a set of the following methods is used: 1. general scientific (theoretical): analysis, synthesis, generalisation, comparison, abstraction - study of research sources, facts, events, as well as objects and phenomena of theoretical and methodological ideas of artists-pedagogues of the first half of the twentieth century as an integral historical system; fixation of general features and properties of the activities of Ukrainian artists-pedagogues of the outlined period; classification of general features of specific groups of artists-pedagogues of the first half of the twentieth century; 2. Specific scientific: systemic - identification of events and phenomena and their precise sequence that influenced the context of the development of artists-pedagogues; chronological, retrospective - determination of the time sequence of formation and development of theoretical and methodological ideas of the studied artists-pedagogues; comparative and contrastive - search and outline of similar and different characteristics of theoretical and methodological ideas of certain artists-pedagogues; genetic - analysis of the development of culture in the context of the first half of the twentieth century and the factors that influenced its growth and transformation. The theoretical and methodological ideas of Ukrainian artists-pedagogues of this historical period are singled out and analysed, including O. Arkhypenko, V. Hahenmeister, M. Barsamov, O. Biloskurskyi, O. Bohomazov, M. Burachek, L. Kalenychenko, V. Kasiian, P. Kovzhun, E. Kozak, S. Kolos, F. Krasytskyi, F. Krychevskyi, V. Lasovskyi, K. Malevych, A. Maliutsa, Yu. Mykhailiv, P. Musiienko, V. Palmov, M. Samokysh, V. Sedliar, A. Sereda, V. Sichynskyi, O. Slaston, H. Smolskyi, I. Trush. The text describes the scientific-pedagogical activity of artists and their individuality. It summarises information about art education institutions where prominent artist-pedagogues worked, analyses their development within a defined period, and examines the organisation of the educational process. The study examined the historical, artistic, and methodological approaches of Ukrainian artists, including migrant artist-teachers, and their contribution to the development of national art education. The research identified the positive theoretical and practical contributions of Ukrainian artist-pedagogues. It determined the peculiarities of applying the ideas and concepts of artists from that period in modern art education. The fragment discusses the theoretical and methodological ideas of artist-pedagogues from the first half of the 20th century, focusing on national culture, art, creativity, the creative process, artistic image, composition, technique, technology, updating, and reflection. Previously unknown historical and artistic works and methodical materials created by artist-pedagogues during the first half of the 20th century have been made available. These materials have been summarised and systematised, providing valuable resources for future research in the field of art education in Ukraine. Certain aspects of the history of art education and art institutions in the first half of the twentieth century were further developed, taking into account the ideas of theoretical and methodological thoughts of artists and teachers and their contribution from historical, cultural, pedagogical, and art historical perspectives.
