The dissertation presents the results of research into the psychological characteristics of individuals with different levels of physical perfectionism. The theoretical and methodological concepts and scientific approaches to the definition of general perfectionism as a psychological phenomenon, and the factors and components that condition the manifestation of physical perfectionism are analyzed and systematized; a theoretical analysis of the concepts: «perfectionism», «physical perfectionism» was carried out; criterion and structural characteristics of physical perfectionism are defined; the significance of the image of the physical self, in the manifestation of physical perfectionism, for the harmonious development of the modern personality and its vitality is characterized; the main prerequisites of a person's satisfaction/dissatisfaction with his body are revealed, namely, the dialectical contradictions between the subjective assessment of his appearance and body image and the real image of the physical self are resolved. The considerations considered in the study gave us the opportunity to define physical perfectionism as an independent phenomenon that manifests itself in the desire to achieve the perfection of one's appearance: increased concern and dissatisfaction with one's appearance, the desire to meet high standards of the body, to achieve the best results in the struggle for an ideal figure, as well as a painful attitude towards critical remarks about appearance.Based on the results of a theoretical study of the problem of psychological characteristics of persons with different levels of physical perfectionism, a functional model of physical perfectionism of the individual was developed. This schematization is aimed at determining the appropriateness of interrelated content components, which indicate the systematic formation of physical perfectionism and determine its originality as personality traits, which determines the uniqueness and uniqueness of a person in all his bodily manifestations. In our opinion, the model of physical perfectionism of the individual emphasizes the dynamics of a person's reflective self-knowledge, which illuminates the personal meaning of his constructive activity regarding the perfection of appearance.According to the obtained diagnostic results, it was found that the obtained correlations explain the interdependence of indicators of general perfectionism, physical perfectionism with indicators of various mental phenomena. The study of the ratio of perfectionism indicators and «I-functions» indicated that an increase in the values of perfectionism indicators is accompanied by an increase in the values of such I-functions as destructive and deficient aggression, anxiety (fear), deficient internal I-restriction, destructive and deficient external I- limitations, destructive and deficit narcissism and sexuality. A directly proportional relationship was also established between indicators of physical perfectionism and indicators of the properties of the factor structure of the personality (neuroticism, masculinity, sociability, poise, extroversion, etc.). The relationship between indicators of physical perfectionism and indicators of narcissistic personality traits indicated a significant correlation with indicators of «belief in one's own uniqueness», «need for constant attention and admiration», «expectation of special treatment»; «manipulation in interpersonal relations» etc. And a study of the relationship between perfectionism and happiness showed that perfectionists are less likely to experience happiness because they suffer from emotional deregulation. Thus, it can be assumed that if a person has a higher level of perfectionism, it can lead to an overall poor sense of satisfaction with life. This means that excessive perfectionism is a personality variable that directly affects life satisfaction. The data and differential psychological analysis of the obtained results are presented, which consisted in: firstly, in grouping the examinees according to a qualitative-quantitative combination of indicators of physical perfectionism, secondly, in the study of personality traits characteristic of representatives of selected groups, compilation and description of psychological characteristics of groups of persons selected groups with high and low levels of physical perfectionism.
