Dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 05 - Social and Behavioural Sciences, speciality 053 - Psychology - National Defence University of Ukraine, Kyiv, 2024.
The factors of modern combat have a significant impact on the course of mental processes (perception, attention, memory, thinking, will, emotions), changing their speed and quality (constancy, selectivity, integrity, stability, volume, concentration, productivity, realism, etc.), which in turn determines the effectiveness of combat activities. The inevitable experience of stress can have both mobilising (combat arousal) and destabilising (stupor, panic, auto-aggression) effects. One of the factors that ensures the ability of servicemen to experience stress of the ‘mobilising’ type is a sufficient level of psychological resilience - the ability of a person to maintain the required level of psychological readiness for a certain period of time in specific conditions of the situation and to quickly restore their psycho-emotional state after extreme (crisis) situations.
The dissertation is devoted to solving the scientific task of developing and empirically testing the validity, reliability and effectiveness of promising tools for measuring and developing the psychological resilience of Army personnel to combat stressors intended for use by brigade combat stress control groups.
The scientific novelty of the results obtained is that in the dissertation study
for the first time, a methodology for assessing the level of psychological stability has been developed and standardized, which allows to determine the level of formation of psychological stability to combat stressors of both an individual serviceman and the unit as a whole, by measuring its following components: the ability to control one's state; self-confidence; readiness to destroy the enemy; readiness to endure discomfort; conviction in superiority over the enemy; confidence in commanders and colleagues; readiness for self-sacrifice;
for the first time, the dynamics of changes in the level of psychological stability of servicemen of a unit (subunits) of the army at the stages of their training, use, and restoration of combat capability is empirically determined;
for the first time, the regularities of manifestation of psychological stability components in representatives of units of various (mechanized, tank, airborne, artillery, engineer, repair and restoration) branches of the Army were empirically established;
for the first time, a comprehensive program for the development, maintenance and restoration of psychological stability at the stages of training, employment and restoration of combat capability of units (subunits) of the Army was developed and tested;
approaches to the use of debriefing during the psychological support of units and subunits at the stages of their employment and restoration of combat capability were further developed.
The practical significance of the results obtained is the development of tools for assessing (Methodology for assessing the psychological resilience of servicemen) and developing (Program for the development of psychological resilience to combat stressors) the psychological resilience of servicemen of the Land Forces to ensure their possible integrated use. The developed complex has been used (as evidenced by the acts of implementation) for the following purposes
methodological support of the activities of military command and control bodies in organizing the activities of combat stress control groups;
scientific and methodological support for the operational response of combat stress control groups to the failure to achieve or reduce the required level of psychological resistance to combat stress in the Army;
to provide the centers of moral and psychological support with valid and reliable tools for measuring and developing the psychological resilience of the Army personnel to combat stressors;
advanced training (level of professional competence) of military psychologists;
providing assistance in the development of psychological resilience to about 2000 military personnel in the course of the work of research groups.
