The thesis is dedicated to the problem of functional use of the concept of "the tragic" as a means of aesthetic analysis of non-classical art. The study of this work deals with the dynamics of forming and transformation of "the tragic" in the context of monistic and nihilistic ways of thinking, represented by classic and non-classic traditions. Major attention is given to the development of methodological principles of application of "the tragic" to the research of compositional, structural and content-oriented features of works of art, representing the nihilistic ways of thinking.
