This dissertation focuses on the peculiarites of structure, semantics and functions of temporal clauses in Modern Spanish. The study is done within the framework of contemporary linguistic research aimed to explore the phenomena of language from the cognitive, communicative, functional and semantic perspective. The typology of temporal clauses developed in this dissertation is grounded on functional and semantic criteria. This study also offers a comprehensive account of semantic and syntactic relations inherent in the respective complex sentences. The main means of expressing semantic relation of the linguistic and extralinguistic essence of the time category.
