Essay

The dissertation thesis centres on temporal semantics of an utterance in texts belonging to one of the poorly studied functional styles of the French language, i.e. the official business style. Grammatical tenses of the Verb have been investigated in their both primary and secondary functions. The paper defines the types of texts and speech patterns in which the domination of the meanings of an actual, non-temporal, hypothetic or real action have been traced. The temporal background of a sentence has been studied as the one resulting from the interaction of tenses of the Verb with lexical units bearing temporal or non-temporal semantics with the consideration of their syntactic organization (a passive construction).
