Theoretical analysis of foreign psychological and pedagogical conceptions as to fostering problem has been carried out. Foster family main functions connected with education, rehabilitation, adaptation have been revealed. Functions of foster families as special social education environment, playing the main role in socializing process of adopted children have been analyzed. It has been found out that every foster family has to take into account traditions, norms, views, likes, interests of an adopted child. The important condition for effective foster family functioning in Great Britain is based on interaction of foster families and a social worker.
