Filonenko N. Verb Constructions in Existentialist French . Prose: Structural, Semantic and Functional Aspects (A Study of A.Camus' "La Peste" and "La Chute")

The thesis is a comprehensive study of verb syntactical constructions in the French existentialist writer A.Camus' "La Peste" and "La Chute" a novel and a tale. The research resulted in distinguishing functional peculiarities of verb constructions, which are most typical used in prosaic text. The realisation of the author's intentions through the verb syntactic constructions is studied and described with the help of the lexical loading, the contextual dependence being taken into consideration. The analysed constructions were classified according to their formal characteristics, and were exposed to a quantitative description. The major philosophical ideas were scrutinised from the ontogenetic perspective, in relation to literary genre and the author's life periods. Thus, linkage between A.Camus' fundamental ideas and certain syntactical constructions were established. The constructions in study underwent a quantitative analysis.
