The thesis determines the theoretical status and the practical use of insinuating strategies in the discourse of Modern French. It defines insinuating as a strategy of illocutionary manipulation. It analyses the discourse functions of the insinuating and makes a comparison with rhetoric means. The thesis also describes the pragmatic structure and the linguistic techniques of this strategy taking the syntactic repetition for example.
