The dissertation provides an aesthetic and philosophical analysis of the problem of musical postmodernism in the art of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Mauricio Kagel. Postmodernism is viewed as a new paradigm in 20th century Western European culture, as a trend in contemporary art and of a specific aesthetic theory. The phenomenon of musical postmodern is based on aspect of ontology, which is represented in Martin Heidegger's theory of art and considered a new concept in art. The author's approach to musical postmodernism is focused on the poststructuralism and deconstructionism methodology of Roland Barthes, Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault. Musical postmodernism and its place in the dialogue of Western and Eastern culture are studied in a context of comparative analyses, as being the most appropriate to the postmodern phenomenon. In the investigate of the specific nature of musical postmodernism in the art of K.Stockhausen and M.Kagel, the dissertation provides an outlook of the basic aesthetic categories including musical text, intertext, polyphonism, irony, space-time.
