Karbusheva I. Experimental study of pharmacological activity of a new polyphenolic drug altan at ulcerative colitis

A pharmacological study of a new preparation altan, representing complex ellagotonins from cones of Alnus incana and Alnus glutinosa was conducted. It was established that altan has a wide spectrum of phannacological activity: expressed antiradical, antioxygen, membrane protection, antiexudative and antimicrobic properties, that allowed to assume medical action of the preparation at ulcerative colitis. Therapeutic efficiency of altan in the dose of 1 mg/kg in experimental models of different large intestine affection: acetic sigmoiditis, formalin proctitis and radiation affection of the intestines in rats was shown. The obtained results shown reliable advantages of antiulcerous activity, inhibition of the inflammatory process mucous membrane of the intestines, effect on lipid peroxidation processes and microstructure colonocytes of altan over those of Salazopyridazinum. Altan belongs to practically non-toxic substances, does not show any local irritating, ulcerogenic and hepatotoxic activity. Altan does not effect the secretory function of the stomach and promotes retardation of the intestines peristalsis.
