The object of the research is legal education in the history of the home pedagogical science of the second half of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century; the aim of the research is to distinguish the dynamics of the formation of the home legal education system and the ways of its realization in school practice; the methods are general scientific (analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, systematization), historical (comparative-historical, historical-retrospective); novelty – for the first time the sources of legal education are established, the content of the official policy in the field of legal education and the evolution of society’s attitude towards the issue of legal education are described, the most relevant features of content, methods, forms of legal education and its specific character are explored and analyzed, the experience of introducing the theoretical ideas of legal education in school practice is summerized, the role of pedagogical journalism in the popularization of the ideas of the prominent home scientists and practicing school teachers is shown, the world experience in the field of legal education is studied; field of studies is the history of pedagogics.
