Essay

The subject-matter of the presented research work is the rise and development of the environmental education at secondary schools of Germany. The problems under discussion are thoroughly analysed in close connection with historical events of the country, philosophical and cultural heritage of the German nation, achievements of natural sciences, the increase of public interest in harmonious coexistence of the human society and nature. The emphasis in the research is placed on national peculiarities of the environmental education system: the structure of the secondary school curriculum, extracurricular and outdoor activities.
