Essay

The effects of glycolysis and electron transport chain blockade on rat pulmonary artery contractile activity were studied under hypoxic condition in intact, denuded and myoendothelial electrical coupling blocked isolated vascular rings. The data suggest that pulmonary artery hypoxic contraction is endothelium-dependent and it is likely that glycolysis and electron transport chain in endothelium cells contribute to hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction via myoendothelial gap junction by means formation and conduction of depolarizing electrical signals from endothelial cells to smooth muscles that caused their contraction under hypoxia.
