The thesis is devoted to the problem of measuring educational achievements of students by means of testing in the pedagogic of the USA. The basic functions of classroom tests at schools of the USA and the uses and limitations of educational objectives in test development are explored. The most essential characteristics of classroom tests are investigated and the main types of tests are analysed. As a result of the research the general pedagogical conditions of effective testing at american schools are revealed and the most spread forms of tests – essay and objective tests – are characterized. Using the experience of americal educators some practical recommendations on construction and application of achievement tests are developed.
