Essay

This thesis focuses on the study of structural, semantic, and pragmatic peculiarities of alternative interrogative sentences in French as a separate communicative sentence type with regard to language and speech differentiation. Conventional implicature that motivates the choice of a sentence alternative component is a distinctive feature of general and partial alternative interrogative sentences. General and partial alternative interrogative sentences are represented in the system of language by respective monosemantic invariant models that, in their actualization, can be potentially monosemantic or polysemantic. There can be a conjunction of internal and external (discursive proper) argumentation in alternative questions' speech realizations. Monoillocutionary and polyillocutionary (or contaminated) constructions of partial alternative questions are differentiated according to their structural, semantic, and pragmatic characteristics. The constructions with ou non/ou pas or ouiou non are such discursive formations that do not derive from invariant models of general alternative questions. These conjunctive phrases perform a transdiscursive function.
