The manuscript investigates the process of ethnic and ecological upbringing of pupils in schools and non-formal establishments of Great Britain. In the dissertation jn the basis of analysis of many sources in history, theory and practice of environmental education and upbringing we have disclosed the role and place of national and pedagogic heritage in developing with a growing generation ecological awareness and culture which are reflected in fairy-tales, legends, epics, riddles, proverbs, sayings, songs etc., classic and modern literature, traditions, ideas and outlooks of the British people; an interrelation of modern theory and practice of ecological upbringing of pupils in British schools with traditions of national pedagogy and the experience of nature utilization are shown; the contents and main forms of organization of ethnic and ecological upbringing are determined; the most effective from didactic and educational viewpoint methods and means of developing in the youth high moral ideals and values concerning nature, perception of it as invaluable national treasure and common to all mankind property are characterized; curricula and various didactic materials in ethnic and ecological upbringing of pupils, which are used in school educational process and extracurricular activity are analysed too.
