Essay

The system of professional foreign languages teachers’ training and postgraduate education in Great Britain are investigated in the thesis. The author studies issues of foreign language teaching reforming sphere at secondary educational institutions and the ne-cessity of foreign languages teachers’ training in Great Britain. Common European integration processes had great influence on foreign languages teachers’ training in Great Britain within last ten years. Foreign languages teachers are trained in two ways: аt peda-gogical departments of the Universities; аt pedagogical colleges. An exchange of teachers (for 1 year, 1 semester, 6 or 3 weeks) in Bel-gium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Finland and Italy is being organ-ized in Great Britain. 65 higher educational establishments (Univer-sities, colleges and Institutes of Pedagogics) train foreign languages teachers. School-based experience, curriculum, means of teachers’ training are investigated. Great attention is paid to the problems of postgraduate education. Several practical recommendations con-cerning the application of the British experience in teachers’ educa-tion are suggested for applying in the system of higher education in Ukraine: long-lasting school-based experience; attending other countries for the purpose of obtaining and giving classes at schools; practical course of the foreign language is taught by the native speakers; the significant meaning of self-study work.
