Essay

The dissertation focuses on the study of authoress' linguistic personality in M.Duras' novels. The gender specificity of the author's linguistic personality has been studied from cognitive and communicative perspectives. The author's imagery reflects the female worldview peculiarities. Comprehensive analysis of metaphorical devices displayed the tendency towards the author's sensory perception of the around world, mirrored in figurative representation of emotional states through "corporal" means used by M.Duras to depict the whole gamut of a person's emotional life; the emotional states being described as binary oppositions. It has also been discovered that authoritarianism is not inherent in the female verbal behavior. This tendency is traced both in the narrative organization of M. Duras' belles-lettres text through the authoress's application of the objectivised narrator's, as well as in the peculiarities of female characters' dialogic behavior. It has been proved that in the cross-gender intercoursethe female personages are characterized by the balanced type of communicative behaviors in contrast to the male personages, who try to dominate in communication and who mostly belong to the strong-willed communicative type
