Yakovenko G. Parish Education in Kharkiv Eparchy (1977–1917)

The object of study – development of primary education in Ukraine in the end of XVIII - in the beginning of ХХ century. The purpose of study is the complex study and analysis of process of occurrence and development of one of basic in that time of making national education - primary church, that essentially influenced on distribution of education among poor layers of the population; organizations of educational process of these parish schools in territory of Kharkiv Eparchy in 1799-1917. The methods used in the research are: historical-genetic, historical-statistical, historical-comparative, historical-system, method of the synchronous and diachronous analysis. The practical value of work consists in use of the received results by for preparation of scientific works on a history of primary education in Ukraine, on a history of culture, in particular, histories of educational activity of Orthodox Church; at teaching in high schools of disciplines "History of Ukraine", "Religion studies", "History of pedagogic", and also in museum, library, local-lore works; at church Sunday schools and Богословско-pedagogical sources, which work in Kharkiv Eparchy. The problem of formation, development and work of parish schools in the Kharkiv eparchy in 1799–1917, their significant contribution into spreading of an elementary education of poor levels of population is considered in the present dissertation on the basis of wide range of sources. For the first time the moving forces and trades of parish schools development in the Kharkiv province are represented at the example of research of a situation with primary parish education in all districts of the province.
