Essay

The dissertion considers Karpats – Black Sea region as. «Natural historic-geopraphical structure» on which Ukrainian colonization of the Dnister, Prut and Ponizje interiver area took place in late 11th and early 13th century. The vivid and complicated ethnodemography of the region such as nomads, byzantine-bulgarian and slavic-volski are investigated. Place and role of the main ethnopolitical and sociocultural components of the colonization at its different stages such as brodniki, berladniki, galician vigontsi, “wild polovtsi” is defined. The division into periods of Ukranian colonization which was the most intensive in late 12th is grounded. The existance of slavic enclave in the Ponizje on the ground of which Berlad principality and Berlad Sich appeared is restored. The fact of Berlad Sich foundation on the Danube as predecessor of Zaporozhska Sich and Danube Sich is demonstrated.
