Object - proffesional - pedagogical competence of Scientists of higher schools of Ukraine at the end of the XIXth-at the beginning of the XXth century; aim-to systemize theoretical views of scholars of the researched period and reveal the essense, and components of proffesional-pedagogical competence and determine the directions of its formation and realization in different activities; methods: analytical, historic - pedagogical, systematical structural, problematic purposeful, comparative; newness - retrospective analysis of problems of forma tion of proffesional - pedagogical competence of scholars of higher educational institutions of Slobozhanshina, problem of creative usage of their ideas, conceptions and experience; result - introduction of conclusions and recommendations to the teaching and pedagogical process, usage of the dissertation materials in the following corses: "The History of Pedagogics"and 'The Principles of Pedagogics and Psycology"; speciality - General Pedagogics and History of Pedagogics.
